Due for release in late 2009, the PSPGo does away with the much maligned UMD slot of the PSP making this the first Sony console to be download-only – all games will be downloaded onto the device, either directly to the PSPGo using the inbuilt WiFi or via a PS3/Windows PC.
A massive 55% smaller than the original PSP (and 40% lighter!) this is perhaps the PSP that should have been launched in the first place. With no games to lug about due to the lack of UMD slot the full PlayStation gaming experience is now truly portable.
Featuring a sliding 3.8″ LCD screen that hides the extendable controls, the PSPGo will initially be available in two colours, Piano Black and Piano White, which have proven to be the most popular colours of the original PSP models.
As well as the smaller form factor, the PSPGo has a number of advantages of the older PSP models, including Bluetooth support (which means you can use Bluetooth headsets and even the Bluetooth PS3 SixAxis controller to control PSPGo games) and a new “Game Sleep” function, which will allow you bring the XMB up in-game, e.g. to quickly do a Google search with the Internet browser, then return to your game at the point where you left it!
